During the IPL Players Auction 2024, records were shattered as Australian pacer Mitchell Starc emerged as the most expensive purchase in the history of the tournament, surpassing his teammate Pat Cummins. The historic acquisition highlights the intense bidding and the premium placed on Starc’s skills, making him the costliest buy in the prestigious IPL.
KKR secured the services of Mitchell Starc for a whopping Rs 24.75 crore after engaging in a fierce bidding war with Gujarat Titans. This substantial acquisition surpasses the earlier record-breaking purchase of Pat Cummins, who was bought for Rs 20.5 crore by SunRisers Hyderabad during the same IPL auction.
Despite spending a major portion of their purse amount for the acquisition of Mitchell Starc, KKR concluded the auction successfully by securing an additional nine players for their squad. This strategic approach indicates the team’s commitment to building a well-rounded and competitive lineup for the upcoming IPL season.
Kolkata Knight Riders have won the IPL two times, particularly in 2012 and 2014 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. Now, Gambhir is the mentor of the side and he will look to bring back the old glory of the team.
