Delhi Capitals are taking on Punjab Kings in the second match of the IPL 2024 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on Saturday, March 23rd. Star DC opener, Prithvi Shaw has been once again omitted from the team.
With this game, the star Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant is making his comeback. This is Pant’s first match since December last year. Alongside the return of their captain, DC also boasts a fresh opening partnership for their IPL 2024 opener.
In the previous edition of the IPL, David Warner shared the opening duties with both Prithvi Shaw and Phil Salt. However, the Delhi-based team has opted to elevate Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh as Warner’s new opening companion. Marsh has experience opening the innings for Australia in T20Is, and DC will be counting on the in-form all-rounder to make an impact for them at the top of the order.
Prithvi Shaw’s recent performances haven’t been up to par, leading to questions about his exclusion from DC’s playing eleven. He also struggled to make an impact in the Ranji Trophy recently. Across nine innings for Mumbai, he only registered one century and one half-century.
