In the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings is slated to begin the training for the 16th season of the Indian Premier League on March 3. Fans will be happy to hear that skipper MS Dhoni is expected to arrive the day before, which is March 2.
With a strong probability level, the 2017 IPL season will be Dhoni’s final one as a player. On March 31, in the opening game of IPL 2022, CSK which was placed eighth last year, will face Gujarat Titans, the defending champions.
In 2023, CSK will have to manage the absence of a couple of its star players due to their commitment with the National team.
Ben Stokes, the team’s 16.25 crore purchase and probable future captain, announced on Wednesday that he would be unavailable for the second half of the season due to commitments with his country. He will depart early to prepare for the upcoming Ashes series, which begins on June 16, and to join his country for the only Test match against Ireland set to be played at Lord’s on June 1.
The New Zealand star pacer Kyle Jamieson will also not serve Chennai Super Kings this year. The Kiwi bowler is already ruled out from the 16th edition of IPL due to back injury.
