Mike Hesson has praised the star opener of Sunrisers Hyderabad after his stellar performance for the franchise. He also predicts that Sharma will be seen opening the innings for Team India right after the T20 World Cup 2024.
Abhishek’s outstanding unbeaten knock of 75* along with Travis Head’s 89*, showcased their aggressive approach against the LSG bowlers. Their partnership propelled SRH to chase down the target of 166 runs in just 9.4 overs and they got their sixth victory of the season in a very convincing way.
Hesson suggested that there would be some alterations in the Indian squad, and Abhishek would be selected alongside players like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal after the T20 World Cup.
“He can certainly face spin in the powerplay overs, in my opinion. He’s made significant progress against pace. He is an excellent player as he goes for the boundaries. There could be some changes after the World Cup, whether it is for Shubman Gill, Jaiswal, or him. There are several names, but he will undoubtedly be one that people will be talking a lot about,” said Hesson.
In IPL 2024, Abhishek scored 401 runs in 12 matches, marking his second-best IPL performance. In the 2022 season, he accumulated 426 runs in 14 games for SRH. Presently, the 23-year-old batter boasts an impressive strike rate of 205.64 and an average of 36.45.
