Lucknow Super Giant’s consultant, Adam Voges, was at a loss for words after his team suffered a humiliating defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 wickets. The home team chased down the target of 166 set by LSG in just 9.4 overs, with Abhishek Sharma (75) and Travis Head (89) doing massive destruction in the Rajeev Gandhi International Stadium.
In his post-match presentation, Adam Voges said, “I think we’re all in awe of a little bit of what we’ve just seen. I think sometimes you’ve got to tip your hat and say well played to the opposition. I think we might have hit miss, hit one or two balls in the nine, and a few overs that we bowled at them. That was incredible batting and hitting. We clearly didn’t have an answer.”
The dazzling duo of Head and Abhishek Sharma went all guns blazing from the first over. Every time they timed the ball, it went for fours and sixes. The duo scored more than 100 runs in the first six overs to keep the opposition completely out of the game.
Adam Voges further added, “I haven’t spoken to the guys yet about whether there was a difference in terms of the innings, but clearly our powerplay compared to the Sunrisers was at the two extremes. We were put under immense pressure with the ball right from the start. We weren’t able to apply that same pressure with the bat, to begin with.”
However, the ex-cricketer was all praise for the partnership between Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran, which bailed the team out of trouble after they were reduced to 66/4.
This loss of LSG against Sunrisers Hyderabad has given a huge dent to their net run rate as well, which has almost put them in a do-or-die situation from here on.
