And big news with that, it was also informed that in T20 World Cup 2024, the match between India and Pakistan, the biggest “blockbuster match of the ICC tournament,” can be held in America instead of West Indies considering the viewership of both the teams.
America Cricket Board president Atul Rai gave the information about India vs. Pakistan match to the media. “Looking at the response India’s match against the West Indies got in Florida, it will be done in America,” said Atul Rai.
The 2024 global tournament in the Americas will be the first such tournament, while the Caribbean has already hosted a 50-over (2007) and a T20 World Cup.
Looking at the upcoming world cup, the ICC tournament head visited in May and December. And also stated that India A has already played here, so we have enough big ground and spectator capacity.
“The ICC tournament team headed by Chris Tetley visited in May, where they visited many grounds in different cities. He came again a few weeks back (December) and visited the sites. If we look at the ground in Los Angeles, India A came to play five matches against Australia. It is a proper cricket ground with big boundaries, and the spectator capacity is also very good,” said Atul Rai.
Atul Rai also talked about the possibility of holding the match in the country’s most populous city, New York. Also gave his opinion on the possible timing of the match, considering the time zone difference with the Asian subcontinent.
He said, “New York is also a possibility because a large population likes this game. Two decades ago, the then-mayor of NYC claimed that one out of every eight New Yorkers was involved in cricket. Temporary stands to be held at any New York City arena will be built in a maximum of two weeks. All grounds in New York have turf pitches.”
