Aakash Chopra Raised Questions On Sanju Samson’s Selection In T20 World Cup 2024 Squad

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has given his opinion on the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The commentator has raised questions on the selection of Sanju Samson and said that however, none of the batters have batted lower down the order in the ongoing IPL 2024.

The selectors have recently announced the Indian squad for the upcoming global T20 event starting next month. Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant have been selected as the two wicketkeeper-batsmen in the 15-member squad, while KL Rahul didn’t even make it to the reserve players’ list.

While talking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra has given his opinion on squad selection highlighting the wicket-keeper choices for the team.

“Two wicketkeepers have been selected. One is Sanju Samson and the other is Rishabh Pant. Either of them can play, let’s be fair. You assume Rishabh Pant is the first-choice keeper and the second is Sanju Samson,” he said.”

Aakash Chopra further added, “I felt KL Rahul might get selected. I wouldn’t have been surprised if he had been selected and I am not surprised even if he hasn’t been selected because whoever would have been selected here, wouldn’t have played. Neither of them has batted down the order.”

Chopra stated that the decision to select the second wicketkeeper-batsman, unlike the omission of Rinku Singh, wasn’t unfair.

“Sanju’s T20 numbers are okay when he has batted down the order. KL Rahul hasn’t played down the order at all. He has only played down the order in ODIs. It was not really that it would be a great injustice based on whoever was picked. This was not a Rinku-type case.”
