Big Blow For Sri Lanka, Star All-Rounder Ruled Out Of 2023 ODI World Cup

Sri Lanka has received disappointing news before the ODI World Cup 2023. Spin all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out from the upcoming tournament happening in India. As reported by India.com, Hasaranga will be unable to take part in this prestigious tournament in India due to a hamstring injury. Sri Lanka Cricket has a four-day window remaining to name a replacement for Hasaranga as the deadline for finalizing World Cup squads is September 28.

Earlier, Hasaranga was also sidelined from playing in the recently concluded Asia Cup because of the same hamstring injury. His most recent appearance on the field was during the Lanka Premier League, where he took charge of the B Kandy Love team.

Wanindu Hasaranga played a vital role in helping Sri Lanka secure a spot in the 2023 World Cup but now he won’t be giving any services to the team due to severe hamstring injury.

Sri Lanka has faced another setback as spinner Maheesh Theekshana sustained an injury during the Asia Cup. However, it appears that he is on track for a timely recovery and should be able to take part in the upcoming World Cup event.

The eagerly awaited ODI World Cup 2023 is set to kick off on October 5th in India, featuring a match between England and New Zealand, the two finalists from the previous edition. Sri Lanka will play its first match against South Africa on October 7th.
