Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the squads for the upcoming One Day International and T20 International T20I series against Australia. The series is to commence on February 2 after the conclusion of the two-match Test series.
Shai Hope will lead the ODI squad, whereas Rovman Powell will captain the T20I Squad. The West Indies delivered a strong performance in their recent white-ball series against England at home, making a statement, and they aim to capitalize on that success.
A notable absence from both white-ball squads is the dynamic left-handed batsman, Shimron Hetmyer. His performance in the home series against England was disappointing. He managed only three runs in two T20I appearances and a mere 44 runs in the three-match ODI series.
The West Indies T20I squad marks the comeback of Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers, who had opted out of the Test series. Interestingly, they are not part of the ODI Squad. Similarly, batters Brandon King and Sherfane Rutherford will not be part of the ODI squad as they have been granted permission to participate in franchise cricket before joining the T20I series.
“On the back of a series win against England, we are expecting our ODI team to be very competitive in Australia. We have some new inclusions, who have impressed over a significant period, and a couple of returning players, who we think will have an impact,” lead selector Desmond Haynes said.

“For the T20I series, this forms part of our crucial preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup where we are hosts. We are hoping to build on strong overall performances against India and England and to keep improving as we approach the major tournament,” Haynes added
