The former Indian batter Krishnamachari Srikkanth criticized the BCCI for not picking Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Despite Gaikwad’s good performances in IPL 2024, he wasn’t chosen for the Indian squad. Srikkanth also seemed unhappy seeing the name of Shubman Gill on the reserve list.
Srikkanth slams the team management for showing ‘favoritism’ and claims that Gill appears to receive opportunities even when he isn’t performing well in any format. Ruturaj is presently the leading run-scorer in IPL 2024 with 509 runs, whereas Gill is ranked 13th with 320 runs.
While talking to his official Youtube Channel, Srikkanth said, “Shubman Gill is totally out of form, but why he’s selected in the team? There’s no doubt that Ruturaj Gaikwad deserves a place. He scored more than 500 runs in 17 innings. Also he scored a century against Australia. Shubman Gill is selectors’ delight. He gets chance even if he fails. He finds place even if he fails in Test, ODIs and T20s.There’s too much of favoritism in selection. The team selection is all about favoritism.”
Rinku Singh was not chosen for India’s team in the T20 World Cup 2024, and this decision was heavily criticized by fans and many experts.
