Record Alert: Usman Khawaja Joins The Elite List Matthew Hayden, Became 4th Batter To Do So In India

The left-handed batter of Australia Usman Khawaja has performed brilliantly in the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. Despite losing two early wickets of Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne, the 36-year-old remained composed and played a key role in giving Australia a dominant position against India’s high-quality bowling attack. Australia has surpassed the 400-run mark in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a remarkable inning of 180 runs.

Khawaja has been consistently performing well in the ongoing Test series against India. However, in the fourth Test, he attained a significant achievement by joining the exclusive list of Australian openers who have scored 150 or more runs in a Test match in India.

This exclusive group includes the likes of Jim Burke, who achieved this milestone in Mumbai in 1956, Graham Yallot in Kolkata in 1979, and Matthew Hayden, who scored 203 runs in the 2001 Kolkata Test. Khawaja’s outstanding performance in the fourth Test has made him the first player in over 20 years to join this list of star Australian cricketers.

Despite being a consistent performer for Australia in recent times, Usman Khawaja had not been given the chance to play Test cricket in India but in the current series, he is opening for the team. He has managed to showcase his skills by delivering an exceptional batting performance in the middle order.
