With the victory in the last match against RCB, KKR’s team has reached the seventh position in the points table of 10 teams. But they still have to go a long way to ensure a place in the playoffs. KKR currently has only six points and will have to win at least five of the remaining six matches to ensure a place in the playoffs. Even a defeat can be heavy for Kolkata Knight Riders in such a situation.
KKR’s Caribbean stalwart Andre Russell’s performance wasn’t going as expected this season. And the main reason behind this is that he has been recovering from a knee injury.
In 8 matches, Russell has scored only 108 runs so far at a poor average of 18. First time this season against Royal Challengers Bangalore completed his quota of 4 fours, in which he conceded 29 runs and grabbed 2 wickets. This spell of Russell played an important role in winning KKR against RCB.
Talking to a media house, Russell opened up about his knee injury by which he had been struggling for the last few years, and explained how Kolkata Knight Riders helped him recover.
“Where I was, a few years ago, KKR actually make things happen for me where they send me to get proper treatments on my knees. That’s something special to me to be honest. No other franchise or even my country never really invest that much on me,” Russell said.
“I’m happy here. I don’t see any other franchise I would love to be a part of in this tournament because I’ve been here for about 9 years now. Been here for so many years, I meet these guys, get closer to them every year. When cricket isn’t there, I’m still in communication with Mr Venky (Mysore). I look up to him, I really respect him,” the all-rounder further stated.
Talking about the performance of Kolkata Knight Riders this season, it has not been seen on the field as expected. The team has won only 3 out of 8 matches this season and lost in 5. KKR’s team is currently at the 7th position in the points table with 6 points. If the team has to secure its place in the playoffs, it must show a much better game in the coming matches.
