Big Blow For Sri Lanka, Dasun Shanaka To Be Replaced As Captain Before The 2023 ODI World Cup

Surprising news is coming out for the Sri Lankan cricket fans before the ODI World Cup 2023. According to the latest report by RevSportz, Dasun Shanaka will resign from his position as Sri Lanka’s captain ahead of the highly awaited ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. This prestigious tournament is scheduled to be held in ten different locations in India from October 5 to November 19.

Sri Lanka will play its first match of the competition against South Africa on October 7 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Shanaka is one of the top all-rounders of the Sri Lankan team. He has contributed to the transformation of the team into a strong and competitive unit. However, Sri Lanka had a disappointing performance in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 which was played in Colombo. India beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to win the trophy for the 8th time.

Shanaka’s individual performance this season has been quite disappointing, despite the team’s overall performance in the 16th edition of the Asia Cup. In a total of six matches, the all-rounder has been able to score just 54 runs.

If the reports are to be believed, the experienced all-rounder Anjelo Mathews Angelo Mathews, is anticipated to be included in Sri Lanka’s ODI World Cup squad.

Mathews has played 221 ODIs for Sri Lanka in which he has scored 5865 runs at an average of 41.01. He has three hundreds and 40 half centuries to his name in the 50-over format.
