According to Virat Kohli, he received a message from Sunil Chhetri regarding his decision to step down from international football. Following the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match against Kuwait on June 6 at Salt Lake Stadium, the 39-year-old Chhetri is scheduled to hang up his boots.
The renowned athlete sent a video to his social media accounts saying goodbye to his favorite sport.
After Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Chhetri is presently ranked third among active international goal scorers. In an interview with Mr. Nags, Danish Sait, Kohli praised Chhetri’s modest nature. He added that Chhetri was pleased with his choice.
“In fact, he messaged me to let me know that he would be carrying it out. However, it seems to me that he felt content with the choice. Over the years, we have grown rather close, and I hope the best for him. Kohli remarked, “He is a lovely, lovely guy,” on the RCB Insider Show.
Over the years, there has been a healthy relationship between Chhetri and Kohli. Before the IPL 2023 match between RCB and MI at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Chhetri had a meeting with Kohli and the team last year.
