Prior to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the Indian cricket team will only get the opportunity to play one warm-up match against Bangladesh at the recently constructed modular stadium in Nassau County, New York. According to reports, the Men in Blue will go to the United States in three groups: one on May 25 and 26, and the other containing, if any, players who will compete in the IPL final match.
A source from ESPNCricinfo suggests that the June 1 match between India and Bangladesh may be the first major event held at the recently constructed stadium. Corey Anderson, Liam Plunkett, Usain Bolt, and Shoaib Malik were among the celebrities that attended the stadium’s Tuesday, May 15 launch.
The 34,000-seat modular stadium features drop-in pitches that were trucked in from Florida after being built. The International Cricket Council (ICC) will hold trial events and a couple of exhibition matches to make sure the stadium is prepared for World Cup action on June 1.
In the first round of the American tournament, New York will host eight matches, while Florida and Dallas will each host four.
Three of India’s four matches will take place in New York during the first round, with the final matchup taking place in Florida versus Canada.
Each team will have a different warm-up match. Since traveling takes a lot of time, New Zealand has completely given up on the idea of playing a warm-up match. Instead, head coach Gary Stead has chosen to rely on the players’ recent IPL experiences. A few members of the squad participated in the five-match T20 series against Pakistan, and some of them—particularly Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips—have participated in the CPL.
The four-match T20 series between England and Pakistan, which concludes on May 30, means that neither team will have any warm-up matches before the T20 World Cup. The United States and Canada will face off in a neighborly match in Dallas on June 1 (6 AM IST on June 2).
