After Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood, now Australia seems to have another setback before the 1st Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting on February 9 in Nagpur.
A report suggests that Australian superstar all-rounder Cameron Green is unlikely to take part in the first test due to his fractured finger which is yet to heal. It was also noted that Green did not have any batting practice sessions at Vidarbha Cricket Association, Nagpur. However, Cricket Australia (CA) doesn’t want to take any risk as he went under surgery to insert some pins in his finger. This surgery happened just five weeks ago.
Before leaving for Nagpur, he injured his finger while batting during the training camp in Bengaluru. While no harm was done, it was enough to make the team management cautious.
Talking about Green’s injury, Australian vice-captain Steve Smith said, “I don’t think he is [going to play]. I don’t think he’s ever faced fast bowlers yet. So I dare say he won’t be playing but who knows? I’m not entirely sure. We’ll wait and see. But it’s unlikely, I think.”
Now Cricket Australia will juggle between Matt Renshaw and Peter Handscomb for the replacement for Green. If it happens Australia will most probably go with five specialist bowlers and six specialist batters.
