“Ab Jeet Liye, Wo Quality Captain Tha….”: Ex-Pakistani Skipper Criticized BCCI On Removing Virat From Captaincy Role

Team India lost the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in the group stage under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, and fans started criticizing him for not winning any ICC trophy thus Indian team management decided to take down the captaincy role from him and Rohit Sharma became the new skipper of the men in blue to end the drought of ICC trophies. But the result in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 was the same.

Comparing the current captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli, ex-Pakistani skipper Salman Butt criticized BCCI on their decision to remove Virat from captaincy. He stated that Virat was a quality captain and they had removed him from captaincy, and now have you won the world cup?
“When had they sacked Kohli? There was no valid reason for that. The reason was that he did not win an ICC trophy. How many captains have actually won the ICC trophy? Many have spent their entire career without it. Ab jeet liye (Have they won it now)? He was a quality captain. He wasn’t the only reason why the team had lost. It is not that the team has drastically improved now” slammed Salman Butt.

Further, he added that if BCCI wants a winning skipper in the team then they have picked Dhoni because he is still totally fit and can play T20I. From my perspective, Virat is a ready-to-go player he can lead your team tactically.

If it was all about winning, and you want a winning skipper then it is not that Dhoni can’t play the T20Is. Dhoni is totally fit and in the previous world cup when he was a mentor in UAE, only Kohli was as fit as him. Visibly, no one looked fitter than him. And how can you go for T20 World Cup? The format itself is so fragile and World Cups are happening every 2 years and then in between, you have been playing many league matches. Above all, if you have someone who is fit, ready to go, and can lead you tactically then why not? Grooming can happen in bigger formats as well. But again it’s all about their mindset” Salman Butt further added.
