Will Hardik Pandya’s Leadership Benefit Mumbai Indians? Sunil Gavaskar Weighs In

The world’s biggest Twenty20 league, the IPL, is just around the corner, with just more than a month left for the cash-rich league. The news of the IPL has already started to create a buzz among the experts as well as the fans.

However, one of the major surprises that was given by IPL franchise Mumbai Indians before the IPL auction was the appointment of Hardik Pandaya as the new skipper of Mumbai Indians in place of Rohit Sharma.

A lot of experts have shared their opinions for or against the decision that is being made by the franchise. Recently, one of the greats of the game, Sunil Gavaskar, also shared his views about the decision.

The prolific Indian opener feels that making Hardik Pandaya the new captain of the franchise will not only benefit the team but also ex-Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma.

Gavaskar feels that having Hardik Pandya as the captain will reduce the burden on the shoulders of Rohit Sharma and will allow him to express himself freely as a player.

Gavaskar feels that if Hardik bats at three or five, it will give the Mumbai Indians an added advantage by scoring more than 200 runs in every match.

Gavaskar also spoke about Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher’s statement in which he said that making Hardik the new captain is clearly based on cricketing logic. Gavaskar said that Rohit Sharma is already (36 )and has not been performing as per expectations. Gavaskar feels that as Rohit Sharma is already the captain of the team in all three formats of the game, it adds an immense amount of responsibility and pressure on his shoulders.

Gavaskar feels that Hardik Pandya has been brilliant as a skipper, as he went on to win the IPL title in the very first attempt and reach the finals in the second. So Mumbai Indians have made this change by keeping their future and vision in mind.
