Watch: Marco Jansen And Mohammad Rizwan Involved In Verbal Fight On The Field During The Match Between PAK vs SA

On an already sweltering afternoon at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, things got heated as Marco Jansen and Mohammad Rizwan faced off during Pakistan’s crucial World Cup 2023 clash against South Africa. In a contest where the battle between bat and ball was intense, this encounter added a dramatic twist to the game.

The tension began to mount in the 7th when Marco Jansen, the towering left-arm pacer from South Africa, put down a tough return catch opportunity. Mohammad Rizwan, facing his first delivery of the innings, was deceived by Jansen’s slower delivery, chipping the ball to the bowler’s right. Jansen dived to his right, getting his hand to the ball, only to see it slip away to safety.

Not one to be easily deterred, Mohammad Rizwan looked to turn the heat back on Marco Jansen, who was riding high after dismissing both of Pakistan’s openers. Rizwan decided to take on a length delivery with a wild heave. The ball took the top edge of his bat and soared over the boundary at the third-man region. Jansen was displeased with the top-edge flying to a boundary and didn’t hold back. A few words were exchanged between the two players in the middle, adding to the intensity of the contest.

The exchange of words between Rizwan and Jansen escalated to the point where the umpires had to intervene. It was a moment that showcased the competitive spirit of the game. Jansen fired up even more and bowled a delivery at some pace that flew through to the wicketkeeper. Rizwan chose not to offer a shot to that delivery, and Jansen, never one to back down, walked up to Rizwan and had a few more words. He suggested that Rizwan should have also thrown his bat at the delivery.

Amidst the heated exchange, Mohammad Rizwan displayed a calm and composed demeanour. He managed to de-escalate the situation with a smile, bringing a sense of sportsmanship back to the middle.

After this episode, Mohammad Rizwan seemed eager to take on the South African bowlers aggressively. Pakistan managed to cross the 50-run mark inside the 10th over despite losing two early wickets.

Interestingly, Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain, was allowed to get off the mark without any pressure, thanks to Jansen bowling two new balls after removing Abdullah Shafique with a bouncer in the 5th over of the contest.

Pakistan, in desperate need of a win to revive their floundering World Cup campaign, had lost three consecutive matches, including a surprising defeat to Afghanistan earlier in the week in Chennai.
