‘Sachin Tendulkar’s Run And Centuries Would Have Been Doubled, If…’, Sanath Jayasuriya Supports The Statement Of Waqar Younis

Former Sri Lankan legendary opener Sanath Jayasuriya has given his statement on the use of two new balls in ODI cricket. He has agreed with former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis that the introduction of two new balls has made the batter’s game easy in modern-day cricket. Waqar is highly disappointed that the art of reverse swing has been highly affected by the new rules of ICC.

Since the introduction of two new balls in the 50-over format, each ball ages to 25 overs by the conclusion of the innings, a duration deemed insufficient for generating reverse swing, as per Waqar’s observation.

Waqar Younis came to his official X handle and wrote, “ODI cricket is too friendly for batters. Suggestion (to) ICC – 2 new balls to start, take away 1 ball after 30 overs and continue with the other. In the end that ball will only be 35 overs old. We’ll see some reverse at the end. Save the art of #ReverseSwing. Comments please.”

Sanath Jayasuriya asserted that if Sachin Tendulkar had played in the contemporary era, he would have accumulated twice the number of runs and centuries in the ODIs.

“I agree with Waqar Younis that some changes have to be made. If Sachin Tendulkar had the privilege to bat with two balls and under the current power play rules in our era, his runs and centuries would have doubled.”
