India To Host Afghanistan After WTC To Prepare For The ODI World Cup, Here Is The Schedule

After the finale of the World Test Championship, India will jump to prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup. For the same, the Indian Cricket Board, BCCI has decided to organize a series between India and Afghanistan in June. This series will give the Indian cricket team valuable practice and a chance for Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma to experiment with different lineups before the upcoming World Cup.

The ODI series is expected to commence on June 16 five days after the World Test Championship Final at the Oval. For the WTC final, India and Australia will face each other from June 7 in London. India was the runner-up last year against New Zealand and this time they will look to maximize the chances to get the trophy.

The 2023 World Cup is scheduled to start on October 5 and will take place in India. During the same period, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) will hire a temporary broadcaster for the series as the media rights tender is set to be released in June or July. The timeline for the tender process will be hugely dependent on the Afghanistan tour but it is anticipated to commence from the Australian series which is slated in September.

“The Media Rights tender will be released as per schedule this year (June-July) and will depend on the Afghanistan tour, but more likely the process will start from the Australia series in September,” Shah said during a select-media interaction in Mumbai as quoted by Sportstar.

He further added, “The Board will speak to all stakeholders concerned and will come up with an interim decision (for the broadcaster).”
