If the reports are to be believed, IPl 2023 could be the last one for the former Indian skipper who is currently handling the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings. Few players could be seen as the successor of MS Dhoni after he departed from the Indian Premier League. Experts and fans believe that Ben Stokes has the potential to be the next CSK captain but the former CSK player Kedar Jadhav has picked another name.
Kedar Jadhav has suggested that Ruturaj Gaikwad should take over as the captain of the team after MS Dhoni once the iconic wicketkeeper retires from the Indian Premier League. Seeing the number of young guns like Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Nitish Rana doing captaincy, Gaikwad could be the smart choice for the men in yellow. Also, Gaikwad has been the most responsible batter for CSK since he made his debut in IPL 2020. He won the orange cup in 2021 when CSK lifted the trophy for the fourth time.
MS Dhoni has captained the Chennai Super Kings for a record in 200 IPL matches. Since the inception of IPL in 2008, he has been the most celebrated player not only for CSK but in the history of IPL. He has been the team’s captain for most of their time in the league, with only Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja serving as other captains for the side.
MS Dhoni has set several impressive records since 2008 and has established himself as one of the greatest players in IPL history. He has played in 237 matches, including 213 as a captain. He is the most capped player in IPL history. Apart from leading the Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni also captained the Pune Supergiants in 2016.

While speaking to the show in the Jio Cinema, Kedhar Jadhav said, “I think Ruturaj Gaikwad could be the captain of CSK after MS Dhoni. Ben Stokes is also another potential captain along with Ravindra Jadeja. But for that, Stokes has to play really well for CSK this year. Availability is another issue. So I think Rituraj Gaikwad is the best option to captain CSK after MS Dhoni.”
Kedar Jadhav also suggested that the England all-rounder Ben Stokes could be considered as a potential candidate for CSK captain but he emphasized that Stokes would need to deliver exceptional performances in the ongoing season.
