IND vs ENG, 1st Test: Three Major Reasons Why India Lost To England By 28 Runs In Hyderabad

Team India lost the first game against England by 28 runs played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. It was the first clash of the five-match Test series and now the visitors have a lead of 0-1.

The loss has caused India to drop to the fifth position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings. They now have accumulated 26 points from five matches, resulting in a percentage (PCT) of 43.33.

The twist against team India was just unexpected for the team. Meanwhile, we will look at the three major reasons why India lost to England in Hyderabad.

Average Bowling In 2nd Innings

India was ahead of the England Cricket Team as they had a lead of 190 runs after their brilliant performance with the bat in the first innings. England were also struggling at 163 for five in their second show. However, the bowlers could not maintain the discipline, and England batter Ollie Pope took advantage of it scoring 196 runs which included 21 fours.

England went on to score 420 runs in their second innings and now they had a lead of 230 runs. The spinners and pacers seemed helpless on Day 3 and this came as a drawback for the Indian team.

Mysterious Batting Collapse

India got a target of 231 runs but fell short, getting bowled out for 202. The team found itself in a precarious position at 119 for 7, with all the specialist batters sitting in the dressing room.

The Indian batsmen struggled to utilize their potential. Both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were dismissed leg-before-wicket, while Shreyas Iyer lost his wicket cheaply. Shubman Gill once again disappointed everyone and got a duck. At once, India had scored 42 runs without any loss and then they lost their all top batters in the next 77 runs.

The debutant for England, Tom Hartley got seven wickets for the team. It was a spinny track that favored India, however, surprisingly, India gave all the wickets on the spin.

Lackluster Fielding

Indian cricketers showed brilliant fielding in the first two days, but challenges arose when England applied pressure with their major partnerships in their second innings.

Axar Patel missed the opportunity to dismiss Pope when he was on 110, and later, KL Rahul also dropped him at 186 on Day 4. These dropped catches proved costly for India, as they amounted to 80 runs that could have had a significant impact on the final result if the chances had been capitalized on.
