Suresh Raina has expressed his opinion that Rohit Sharma is the successor to MS Dhoni in terms of captaincy. Raina made this comment after India’s victory in the Test series against England in Ranchi. With a 5-wicket win over England in the fourth match, the home team secured an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.
During an interview with the Times of India, Raina mentioned that Rohit Sharma has been providing opportunities to young players, reminiscent of Dhoni’s approach during his playing days in international cricket. Raina expressed his belief that Rohit is heading in the right direction and is an excellent leader.
“He is the next MS Dhoni and is giving chances to young players like Dhoni. MS Dhoni was supported by Sourav Ganguly and then Mahi led from the front. He is a brilliant skipper.”
Raina also praised Rohit for providing an opportunity to Dhruv Jurel, who was recognized as the Player of the Match in the fourth Test against England.
“I want to give credit to Rohit Sharma for including Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel in Playing XI,” he added.
The ex-cricketer also commended Rohit for effectively managing the players’ workload. Jasprit Bumrah was given a rest in the Ranchi Test, and Akash Deep was included as his replacement.
“Rohit is a good planner and he is giving chances to the young cricketers. He is also rotating the players to perfection. I haven’t seen this in the last couple of years. It is not easy to lead India in international cricket. He has been managing the workload of pacers to avoid injuries. Bumrah was rested and Akash took his place. Rohit is handling the players well.”
