The coaching of Rahul Dravid so far has been very average for the Indian Cricket Team. Be it the Asia Cup 2022 or the T20 World Cup 2022, team India failed to impress the fans with their performances. Hardik Pandya has taken the role of Indian T20I captaincy and he has been very accurate from the Ireland series to the recently concluded T20I series against India. However, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has now opined that there is a need for change in the Indian staff members as well.
Harbhajan Singh believes that there is no doubt that Rahul Dravid was a magnificent player with a great sense of the game but in T20 cricket somewhere the intent was lacking in Dravid. Harbhajan Singh says that Team India needs to bring players like Ashish Nehra who have recently retired from T20I cricket.
While speaking to PTI, Harbhajan Singh said, “In the T20 format you can have someone like Ashish Nehra who recently retired from the game. He knows this better than, with all due respect to Rahul, we have played together for so many years, he has vast knowledge but this is a tricky format.”Someone who has played the game more recently is better suited for the coaching job in T20s. I am not saying you remove Rahul from T20. Ashish and Rahul can work together to build this team for the 2024 World Cup.”
He further added, “With such an arrangement, it is easy for Rahul Dravid as well who can take a break as well like he did for the New Zealand tour and Ashish can do the job in his absence.”
