New Zealand has called Kyle Jamieson as a replacement for Matt Henry in the 2023 World Cup due to Henry’s hamstring injury suffered in the game against South Africa on November 1 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune.
Matt Henry left the field during the middle of his sixth over, and as a result, James Neesham had to complete the remaining three balls of that over. Henry is waiting for the result of his scan and then a final confirmation will be taken on his availability.
Kyle Jamieson is set to reach Bangalore on Thursday before the New Zealand cricket team’s game against Pakistan. The match will be played on November 4 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The head coach of New Zealand, Gary Stead clarified that the injuries to Lockie Ferguson and Henry were the reasons for bringing Kyle Jamieson into the team. Earlier Jamieson was part of the squad as a replacement for Tim Southee.
Stead said, “The severity of Matt’s injury, combined with a short turnaround to Pakistan, meant we couldn’t risk being a bowler down for Saturday.”
“Matt’s been a world-class performer for us in ODI cricket for the past two World Cup cycles so we’ve got our fingers crossed for the scan results later today.”
Stead mentioned that New Zealand will make every effort to ensure Kyle Jamieson is a match-fit if Matt Henry is unable to recover in time for the game against Pakistan.
“Kyle’s on his way over as we speak and we look forward to welcoming him back into the group. He’ll likely train with us on Friday with a mind to be available for Saturday’s game,” he stated.
“Kyle was able to train for two full weeks with us earlier in the tournament and has since played a Plunket Shield match – so we’re confident he’ll be able to hit the ground running,” Stead added.
