“Who listens in their…”Sunil Gavaskar Remembers Scolding Yashasvi Jaiswal For This Habit

One of the most prominent faces of sport and team India’s former test opener Sunil Gavaskar revealed that he “Mildly Scolded” Yashasvi Jaiswal during India’s test tour of South Africa in 2023.

Remembering his chat with stylish Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal Sunil Gavaskar said that he scolded Yashasvi Jaiswal for throwing away his wicket in the second test against the West Indies.

After scoring a brilliant ton on his debut,. Jaiswal was all set to register another hundred in the second match, but the southpaw was dismissed on 57 chasing a wide ball.
Jaiswal was the top run scorer of the recently concluded test series between India and England, scoring 712 runs at an astonishing average of 89.

Gavaskar said that it was very nice to see Jaiswal score runs against England. In his recent interaction with Hindustan Times, Gavaskar said, “It felt very nice to see Yashasvi getting all those runs and the manner in which he dominated the attack. I had mildly reprimanded him in the hotel elevator on Day 1 of the first Test in South Africa for throwing away his wicket in Trinidad (the previous Test) after a good 50+ score and told him never to do the bowlers any favor. Thankfully, he listened to me and got two big doubles in this series.
He got three other half-centuries and forgot what I had told him there. But hey, who listens to anyone when one is in his 20s? I didn’t either. Hopefully, he will go on to bigger things and never forget that he is what he is because of Indian cricket.”

Having previously scored 700+ runs against England in his debut series in 1971, Gavaskar said that luck played a major role in his success.

Speaking of the same, Gavaskar said, “When a player gets runs in a series, then he is very good or very lucky. In my case, it was the latter, as no less a cricketer than Garry Sobers gave me lives in my first half century and then my first Test century.”

Jaiswal scored two double hundreds and  three half centuries in the recently concluded series.

Speaking of the same, Gavaskar said, “He got three other half centuries and forgot what I had told him there. But hey, who listens to anyone when one is in his 20s? I didn’t either. Hopefully, he will go on to bigger things and never forget that he is what he is because of Indian cricket.”
