What Made New Zealand’s Win Against South Africa After 92 Years So Special?

The black caps defeated the Proteas in the second test match of the series, winning the series 2-0 against South Africa.

However, this series victory will be regarded as one of the special series victories in the history of New Zealand, as they defeated South Africa after a long wait of 92 years.

This was Kivi’s first series victory over South Africa in their home, as it took 18 attempts to finally defeat the Proteas in the longest format of the game.

The Black Caps needed 227 runs to turn this dream of defeating South Africa into reality. New Zealand had nine wickets in hand to chase the target. In such cases, Kane Williamson came into bat with the opener, Tom Latham, but soon Tom Latham got out.

Kane was later joined by New Zealand’s young sensation Rachin Ravindra as the duo added 64 runs for the fourth wicket; however, it was experienced Dane Pettet who dismissed Rachin to bring South Africa back in the hunt.

South Africa had the opportunity to turn the tide in their favor, but Kane Williamson had other ideas. He batted with calm and composure to bring his 32nd century in the longest format of the game.
