The United States of America announced their team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday. The former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson has been included in the squad. However, Unmukt Chand, former captain of the India U19 team, was not among the players chosen for the 15-member squad for the upcoming mega tournament scheduled to begin on June 1.
Corey Anderson played an important role in taking New Zealand to the finals of the 2015 ODI World Cup, where they lost the match against Australia. He recently captained the USA to a convincing win over Canada. His inclusion bolsters the United States’ chances in the World Cup, particularly as they prepare to face strong opponents such as India and Pakistan in Group A matches.
The wicketkeeper-batsman Monal Patel remains the team captain, with Aaron Jones serving as his deputy. Star paceman Ali Khan has returned to the team after his recovery from a hamstring injury that kept him out during the Canada series.
Pakistan-origin batsman Shayan Jahangir has rejoined the team. However, Gajanand Singh and Usman Rafiq did not make it to the World Cup squad. Gajanand Singh has been named among the reserves, alongside Juanoy Drysdale and Yasir Mohammad.
Former Indian U19 cricketer Saurabh Netravalkar has also earned a place in the USA’s squad for the World Cup. He has taken 24 wickets in 24 T20I innings and remains a crucial bowler in ODIs, having accumulated 73 wickets for the USA.
