Uncertainty Looms: Tim Southee’s Captaincy Future In Question

New Zealand skipper Tim Southee is not sure if he is going to be a part of test matches in India or even against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, which are scheduled to be played later this year.

Southee is well aware of the fact that Spin plays a very important role in Asia but feels that there is ample time left to think about that. New Zealand recently lost the series by 2-0 against Australia at home under Southee’s captaincy.

The Blackcaps reduced Australia to 80/5 and lost the match from that point as Cummins, Carréy, and Mitchell Marsh sealed the deal for the defending champions.

With the IPL and T-20 World Cup coming, New Zealand is not scheduled to play any test matches during this period.
Southee said, “We’ll see. Obviously, when you go to Asia, the makeup of the side changes slightly, with spin becoming the main threat in that part of the world. But we’ll see when we get there. We’ll deal with this tonight and look forward to what’s to come.”

On the other hand, Blackcaps have a poor record against Australia, as they lost another series against Australia at home. New Zealand last won the series against Australia in 1993.

Speaking on the same Southee, she said, “I’m not too sure. They’re a tough side to beat, not only in Australia but when they travel as well. I think when you play the best, you’ve got to be at your best for those periods, a little bit longer. We had moments through both Test matches where we could have been a little bit better at times, and then things could have been slightly different. But it was just another great test, and there’s been plenty of those over the last few years.”
