‘Shubman And Rohit Were Playing So He Didn’t Get The Chance, But He Is Future Superstar’, Wasim Jaffer Backs For This Young Indian For WI Tour

The second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship is over where Australia thrashed India by 209 runs to win the title. Now India will look up to the two-match Test series against West Indies in their country. Meanwhile, the former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has expressed his belief that Yashasvi Jaiswal should be allowed to be part of the Indian squad for the upcoming two-Test series.

Jaiswal showcased his exceptional skills in various formats in domestic cricket. In the 16th edition of IPL this year, he holds the record for scoring the highest number of runs by an uncapped batsman in a single season of the Indian Premier League.

His consistent performance in IPL has provoked the selectors to look at him as a future superstar. His potential as a batter is not hidden from anyone and he could be nourished well with the senior team. Jaiswal is known for his strong technique and temperament. He is anticipated to take Pujara’s spot in the Indian Test squad for the series against West Indies. Perhaps he does not make a quick impact but he could be a perfect number three batter in the upcoming time.

While talking to Sportskeeda, Jaffer said, “Yashasvi Jaiswal is definitely one of them. He has been a very prolific scorer across formats, whether you talk about the IPL, domestic cricket, or India A cricket. I think he needs to be a part of the squad.”

Jaffer said that Jaiswal was part of the Indian squad for the final of the ICC Test Championship in England. The management should look to groom him. To date, Jaiswal has scored 1,845 runs at an average of 80.21 in 15 first-class games. He has got nine centuries and two half-centuries in 26 first-class innings he has played so far.

Jaffer further added, “He was given an opportunity as well this time. He was a part of the team but Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were playing, so obviously he didn’t get a chance. I feel he should be kept along with the team so that he can be groomed, and as and when an opportunity comes, he should get a chance.
