PCB Chairman Naqvi’s Call For ‘Participation Assurance’ From BCCI

Pakistan’s newly appointed cricket chief Mohsin Naqvi would have his eyes on assurance from BCCI secretary Jay Shah on team India’s participation in the Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan.

The executive ICC board will meet in Dubai in the upcoming week, where Naqvi will speak out to all the other members, including Jay Shah, for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place in February 2025.

However, looking at the present scenario, with nearly one year left for the tournament, there will be no assurance from BCCI without any clearance from the Indian Government.

As the latest buzz says, “The biggest worry for the PCB is whether India will send its team to Pakistan, and there is no repeat of last year’s Asia Cup issues.”

In the previous edition of the Asia Cup, Pakistan was made to agree to the hybrid model, with only four games scheduled to be played in Pakistan and the rest of the matches being played in Sri Lanka.

A source close to PCB said, “This is an ICC event, and Pakistan went last year to India for the World Cup. Naqvi will try to convince the ICC and BCCI that they need to confirm that India will be coming to Pakistan as early as possible, as it will help promote the CT for them.”

The source further added, “Naqvi will try to assure the BCCI representatives that with elections (in Pakistan) completed and a new government in place, there will be no security or other concerns for them to play in Pakistan.”

Team India last toured Pakistan way back in 2008; on the other hand, Pakistan has toured India on three occasions (2011, 2016),(2016),(2023).
On the other hand, a BCCI source said, “It’s too early to ask permission from the government for a tournament that is scheduled to be played after one year.”
