“I will definitely play IPL if…”: Pakistani Cricketer Makes Astonishing Claim

In the dynamic world of cricket, where leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL) reign supreme, Pakistani cricketers find themselves on the sidelines due to strained bilateral relations between India and Pakistan. Hasan Ali, the proficient Pakistani fast-bowler, recently expressed his earnest desire to participate in the IPL, shedding light on the complexities faced by Pakistani players in accessing this globally celebrated T20 league.

The inaugural season of the IPL in 2008 witnessed the enthusiastic participation of several Pakistani cricketers, including cricketing legends like Shoaib Akhtar, Salman Butt, and Sohail Tanvir. The vibrant blend of talent from both nations was seen as a positive step in fostering cricketing camaraderie.

However, the aftermath of the terror attack in Mumbai in November 2008 drastically altered the landscape. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) imposed a ban on Pakistani players’ participation in the IPL. This decision, driven by geopolitical tensions, severed the direct cricketing ties between the two nations.

Even during limited-overs tours between India and Pakistan, the players from across the border were denied the chance to showcase their skills in the IPL. The strained bilateral relationship, coupled with political complexities, cast a shadow over the cricketing field.

Despite the challenges, Hasan Ali, a key figure in Pakistan’s bowling arsenal, has not shied away from expressing his desire to feature in the IPL. In a recent interview during his visit to India for the World Cup, Hasan Ali conveyed his wish to play in one of the biggest T20 leagues globally.

“Every player wants to play Indian Premier League, and it’s my wish to play there. It’s one of the biggest leagues in the world, and I will definitely play there if there’s an opportunity in future,” said Hasan Ali.

Former Pakistan head coach and team director Mickey Arthur highlighted the disadvantages faced by Pakistani cricketers due to their absence in the IPL. He acknowledged that not participating in the league has been a significant drawback for the players, leading to a lack of familiarity with iconic venues and different playing conditions.

Arthur emphasized that, despite the challenges, the Pakistani players embraced the excitement of playing in new venues. The absence from the IPL, though deemed a disadvantage, presented an opportunity for the players to experience iconic grounds during international competitions.

“No excuse, but it has been. And the interesting thing has been that every ground we’ve been to has been a new venue for our players, which is exciting. The players have really embraced that and they’ve enjoyed that fact because they’ve watched IPL on TV and they’ve seen test matches at iconic grounds like Eden Gardens, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai. So, for them to play it, it’s been really exciting for them,” Arthur had said.
