Can India Succeed In Ranchi Without Jasprit Bumrah?

Team India is all set to play against England for the fourth time in the ongoing five-match test series in Ranchi. However, ahead of the Ranchi test, it is said that team India is thinking of resting the pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah.

Jasprit Bumrah has bowled more than 80 overs in the ongoing test series across the six innings. He has been able to trouble the best batsman with his pace and movement, in spite of Indian pitches not offering much to the pace bowlers.

So far in three matches, Jasprit Bumrah has been at his best, picking up 17 wickets at an average of 13.65. Team India is currently leading the series with 2-1, but are they in a position to rest Bumrah with a series on the line? The answer is a big no.

Jasprit Bumrah made a comeback in the longest format of the game after a long period of time, and the kind of form he is in, it would not be advisable to rest him because in the past, team India would not give so much instruction before resting any fast bowler because of the presence of bowlers like Shami, Shardul, Natrajan, Bhuvneshwar in the pecking order, and even Umesh Yadav, who had a phenomenal success in the home conditions.

But as per the present situation, most of the bowlers are either out of form or are dealing with injuries, and a few of them are not even considered for selection in the test matches.

Team India’s leading pace bowler Mohammad Shami has been out of action since the World Cup. Shami had that tendency to knock out any batting line-up with his skills, but with Shami already injured, India will have to replace Bumrah with Mukesh Kumar, who has done well for India in patches, but how effective will he be in Ranchi is still a big question.

Jasprit Bumrah has been troubling all the batters of the opposition, especially Joe Root, who has had quite a series with the bat so far. But if Bumrah rests for the fourth test, it would be a big advantage for someone like Joe Root to get his form back and get a few runs under his belt.

So in that case, resting Jasprit Bumrah for the fourth test match would be a big risk, especially when the series is still in the balance with India leading by 2-1.
