ICC Can Make A Big Announcement On India’s Umpire, Preparing To Give Severe Punishment

The final match of the World Test Championship (WTC Final-2023) between India and Australia will be played from 7th June. This match will be played at the Kennington Oval ground in London. A few days before this, the ICC is preparing to punish an umpire living in India severely.

On Monday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) accused Bathinda umpire Jatin Kashyap of violating the anti-corruption code after an investigation into international matches held last year. The ICC did not provide details of the incidents that led to Kashyap being charged under its anti-corruption code. Kashyap has officiated in district-level matches in Punjab, but he is not on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) panel.

Kashyap had not umpired even in district-level matches for the last four years and had no presence in the umpiring circuit of state cricket for a long time before the ICC sought information from the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). He has been charged with failing or refusing without reasonable cause to cooperate with an ACU investigation into possible corrupt conduct under the ICC Code.

The ICC statement states, “This includes the concealment, tampering or destruction of any document or other information which may be relevant to that investigation. Kashyap has been charged with breaching Articles 2.4.6 and 2.4.7 of the Code of Conduct.”

However, Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) secretary Dilsher Khanna said the “ICC’s allegations against Kashyap have nothing to do with the game in the state. He has been accused after the investigation of international matches. The ICC has given Kashyap 14 days to respond to these allegations.”

The ICC said, “As per Rule 4.6.6 of the Code, Kashyap has 14 days from 19th May to respond to the allegations. The ICC will not be commenting further on these allegations now.”

According to the sources, Kashyap could be either a link between the bookies or a suspect linked to the ACU. It will be included in the list of people the ICC will keep an eye on.

A BCCI source said, “If you look at the allegations, it does not appear that Kashyap is a bookie, but perhaps there is a link which was unearthed during the investigation of international matches.”
