2023 ODI World Cup: Aaron Finch Picks His Playing XI For The Opening Encounter Against India

According to former Australia captain Aaron Finch, the majority of players in the Australian World Cup squad have the potential to cement their positions in the playing XI. This includes the top four batsmen, wicketkeeper Alex Carey, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, as well as the three fast bowlers, along with spinner Adam Zampa.

However, Finch believes that the Australian team will have to make a decision between Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green for the role of the sixth bowling option and a finisher. There are reports suggesting that Stoinis might not be fully fit for their World Cup opener against India. This decision could be crucial in determining the balance of the team and its overall performance in the tournament.

While talking to CODE Sports, Finch said,“I think one of the all-rounders will miss to be honest. I think (the team will) be (David) Warner and (Mitch) Marsh, (Steve) Smith, Marnus (Labuschagne), (Glenn) Maxwell, (Alex) Carey, Green, (Pat) Cummins, (Mitchell) Starc, Hazlewood, Zampa.”

Finch expressed some concerns about the extensive amount of white-ball cricket that the Australian team has been involved in over the past month. Playing a lot of limited-overs cricket may impact their performance in upcoming matches or tournaments.

“I think the preparation been OK. The thing that concerns me a little bit is probably how much they’ve played over the last little while and how much everyone’s been on the road. They’ve been pretty gruelling the last six weeks for them, or eight weeks. You’d hate for them to get to the end of the tournament and all be burnt out.”

Aaron Finch Playing XI For The First Match Against India:

David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa.
