Team India announced the squad for the ODI World Cup on September 5 which came as a big surprise as the star Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was not included in the segment. Now according to a latest statement, the experienced Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has inked an agreement with Kent County Cricket Club to participate in the remaining three matches of the ongoing County Championship.
The club has officially announced that Chahal will be eligible for selection in the remaining two Championship matches to be played at their home ground against Nottinghamshire and Lancashire, as well as the away fixture against Somerset. Kent currently occupies the ninth position in the ten-team County Championship Division One. They are facing the risk of declination to Division 2 in the upcoming season.
After making a contract with Kent CCC, Chahal expressed his happiness for joining the English county cricket club. The 33-year-old hasn’t consistently featured in first-class cricket participating in just two matches for Haryana in the Ranji Trophy during the last season where he managed to take three wickets at an average of 92.33. So far, he has secured 87 wickets in 33 first-class matches so far.
Chahal said,”This is an exciting challenge for me, playing in English county cricket, and one I’m very much looking forward to.”
The director of Kent Cricket Club, Paul Downton has also expressed his excitement for Chahal and stated,”We’re delighted to have secured a spinner of Yuzvendra’s quality for the last three Championship matches of the season, with Matt Parkinson not available to us until next year, and Hami Qadri recently injured. He is really looking forward to playing in English conditions and will bring a significant amount of skill and international experience to our squad.”
