Who Will Captain Australia In the T20 World Cup 2024? Head Coach Andrew McDonald Gives Massive Hint

The T20 World Cup is all set to start in June 2024. The tournament will be jointly hosted by the USA and West Indies. Meanwhile, Australia’s head coach, Andrew McDonald has hinted that Mitchell Marsh might captain Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024. Marsh, serving as interim captain after the retirement of Aaron Finch from international cricket.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia’s ODI and Test teams, has indicated a lack of interest in assuming the captaincy for the T20I format. In a recent series against New Zealand, he expressed his enjoyment of playing T20I cricket without the added responsibility of captaincy.

In a statement after the conclusion of the New Zealand tour, McDonald stated that the indications strongly point towards Mitchell Marsh assuming the captaincy for the T20 World Cup. McDonald added that Marsh is poised to secure his position as the full-time captain of the T20I side.

McDonald, who is set to form the selection panel for the T20 World Cup alongside George Bailey and Tony Dodemaide, said, “I think all roads will lead to Mitch, so just got to get that ticked off in certain areas.”

“We’re happy and comfortable with the way he’s been able to operate with that T20 team,” McDonald added.

Under Marsh’s captaincy, Australia has emerged victorious in the T20I series against South Africa, West Indies, and New Zealand in the last 12 months. With no upcoming fixtures before the T20 World Cup 2024, the team is currently preparing for the prestigious tournament.
