Watch VIDEO: Usman Khawaja Bloodied By a Dangerous Bouncer, Hits The Batter’s Chin

Left-handed Australian opener had to leave the field due to injury on Friday after being struck on the chin during the first Test against the West Indies at the Adelaide Oval.

Australia achieved a comfortable victory over the West Indies on the third day of the first Test match. However, during the game, the left-handed batter Usman Khawaja was hit by a bouncer from West Indies speedster Shamar Joseph on the third ball of the seventh over.

Shamar Joseph delivered a bouncer at a speed of 138 kph, coming from around the wicket. The delivery skidded through, and despite Usman Khawaja attempting to move his head away from the path of the ball, it struck him on the chin, causing him to bleed.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Cricket Australia confirmed that Usman Khawaja underwent an initial concussion test in the dressing room, which he passed. However, he was subsequently sent for an x-ray, and if necessary, a CT scan, to ensure there was no structural damage to his jaw.

Usman Khawaja must successfully complete another concussion test on Saturday to be given clearance to participate in the second Test against the West Indies in Brisbane which is scheduled to commence on January 25. Failing the test would place Khawaja into a concussion protocol period, lasting between five to eight days.
