The selection committee led by Chetan Sharma is likely to announce the squad for the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka anytime soon. The news from the sources popping up about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli asking for rest for the three-match T20 series.
Rohit Sharma injured his thumb while playing the ODI series against Bangladesh. He was then sent back to India as the selector and the medical team advised him to take a rest. The exclusion of Rohit Sharma from the Test Series eventually marked KL Rahul as the test captain of the side and India won the series beating the hosts 2-0.
As the selection committee does not want to take any risk for Rohit Sharma, Cricbuzz reports that the team’s star batter and former captain Virat Kohli has asked for a break as well and both these senior players are likely to make it into the team from the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
The rest of these two players will allow selectors to pick some young lads for the T20I series to build a team for the future. Hardik Pandya is almost confirmed for the captaincy role in the T20I series. The all-rounder has been brilliant with his captaincy skills not only during the IPL for Gujarat Titans but also during the T20I series against New Zealand.
