Tanmay Agarwal Creates World Record, Smashes The Fastest Triple Century In First-Class Cricket

Hyderabad batsman Tanmay Agarwal made history by achieving the fastest triple century in first-class cricket on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh on Friday, January 26.

Agarwal achieved the remarkable feat in 147 balls and ended the day with an unbeaten score of 323* (160), which included an impressive display of 33 fours and 21 sixes at the NexGen Cricket Ground in Hyderabad. Before Tanmay Agarwal, this record belonged to Marco Marais of Border(South African Team) against E Province who achieved this feat in 2017 achieving this feat in just 191 balls.

Tanmay Agarwal showcased an extraordinary strike rate of 201.87 as he propelled Hyderabad to a formidable total of 529/1 in 48 overs by the end of the day. His remarkable performance earned him the distinction of having the best strike rate among Indian batsmen in first-class cricket with a minimum of 200 runs and the fourth-best overall.

Tanmay Agarwal reached his double century in 119 balls and then astonishingly required just 28 additional deliveries to achieve the remarkable feat of a triple century, displaying his dominance against the Andhra Pradesh bowlers.

With Tanmay Agarwal already making history with his remarkable triple century, the second day of the game holds the potential for even more records. Currently, with 20 sixes in his innings, the opening batter is just four maximums away from setting the record for the most sixes in a first-class innings.

The current record for the most sixes in a first-class innings is held by New Zealand’s Colin Munro, who hit 23 sixes in the 2014/15 season while playing for Auckland against Central Districts in his innings of 281.

Apart from Tanmay’s exceptional batting, Hyderabad captain Rahul Singh played a stellar innings, scoring 185 runs off 105 balls. The pair combined for an impressive partnership of 449 runs for the first wicket.
