Ramiz Raja appears to be opposed to Mohammad Amir rejoining the Pakistan cricket team. The former Pakistan captain recently spoke at an event, where he reminded the crowd about the fixing incident and advised the youth to avoid the contaminated cricketer. Amir was given a five-year suspension for fixing.
“Youth needs to understand that you can’t love those who were involved in fixing. I feel this on a personal level because unfortunately, I played in that era of cricket where 9 players were trying to win the game and two weren’t. When it happens to you, it becomes difficult. In my book, I never had respect for such people and I never will.” Raja said.
In the 2015–16 cricket season, Amir returned to Pakistani cricket. In January 2016, he returned to international cricket. But he was unable to regularly perform, and in 2018 he was dismissed from the national squad.
Amir is anticipated to return under the new administration as Raja is no longer a member of the PCB. It is unclear if the pacer is considering a comeback because he hasn’t yet remarked on the matter. Amir is still active in international tournaments and participates in the Pakistan Super League.
Speaking about Raja, he was fired as the PCB’s president after the team lost the series to England. Pakistan was defeated 3-0 in the Test series by the team captained by Ben Stokes. Najam Sethi, a former head of the PCB, took over for Raja. The selection committee was also fired by the PCB. The newly appointed head selector was Shahid Afridi.
Amir ended his career playing Test cricket a few days after the 2019 World Cup. He unexpectedly announced his retirement from international cricket in December 2020.
In all formats, Babar Azam remains the captain of the Pakistan cricket team. In a recent two-match Test series against New Zealand, he drew.
