As the Asia Cup tournament is approaching, the excitement level among fans is touching sky-high. The Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023 was announced on Monday, August 21. The notable absence of Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, and Ravichandran Ashwin from the squad has become a major talking point. This unexpected decision to leave them out has ignited discussions on various social media platforms and among cricket experts.
However, the young wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson is there in the squad but he will move to Sri Lanka as a substitute for KL Rahul due to Rahul’s reported minor injury. This decision drew swift reactions from fans on social media, who voiced their dissatisfaction by highlighting Samson’s remarkable ODI batting average of 55. They also compared him with Suryakumar Yadav who has a poor average of 24.
Fans were also baffled to see the name of Tilak Varma into the squad over Sanju Samson. Varma who has not played a single ODI for India and he is there in the team on the basis of his magical performance which he did in the T20I series against Ireland.
However, the veteran Indian spinner R Ashwin has supported the choices of selectors. He has backed both Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament.
While speaking on his Youtube Channel, R Ashwin said,”The selectors know what they are doing. In a huge country like India, when you select a squad, there will be some key players who will be missing the cut. So, just because your favourite is not there in the squad, you should not degrade the others.”
He said that Suryakumar Yadav has been exceptional for the team in the T20Is and he brings X-factor to the team and will surely give his best in upcoming matches.
