Litton Das Ruled Out Of Asia Cup 2023 Due To Viral Fever, Replacement Announced

In a surprising turn of events, Litton Das, a key player for Bangladesh, has been ruled out of the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2023 due to a viral fever. This unfortunate illness has prevented him from joining the squad in Sri Lanka, and his absence leaves a void in the team’s batting lineup. To fill this gap, Anamul Haque has been called in as a replacement, and his inclusion aims to ensure that the team maintains its top-order strength while also having wicketkeeping options.

Litton Das, known for his batting prowess and wicketkeeping abilities, was all set to be a crucial asset for Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. However, his battle with a viral fever has affected his participation in the tournament. The illness has kept him from travelling with the rest of the squad and has unfortunately not subsided in time for the competition.

Anamul Haque, a seasoned cricketer with ample experience in ODIs, has been chosen as the ideal replacement for Litton Das. A like-for-like swap in terms of being a top-order batter who can also keep wickets, Anamul Haque, is expected to provide stability to the team’s batting lineup while offering additional versatility.

Anamul Haque, aged 30, last donned the Bangladesh jersey in an ODI match against India in December 2022. His international career boasts 44 ODIs, in which he has compiled 1254 runs at an average of 30.58. This record includes five half-centuries and three centuries, emphasizing his ability to anchor the innings and play impactful knocks. Anamul has predominantly opened the innings or batted at No.3 in the lineup.

Anamul Haque’s inclusion serves a dual purpose – he bolsters the batting order and assumes the role of a backup wicketkeeper for the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim. This strategic decision ensures that the team’s wicketkeeping department remains well-equipped despite Litton Das’s absence. Anamul is expected to join the squad on Wednesday and offer his valuable skills to the team’s preparations.

Minhajul Abedin, the Chairman of Bangladesh’s national selection panel, shed light on the decision to bring Anamul Haque. He highlighted Anamul’s consistent domestic cricket performance and continued presence in the Bangladesh Tigers program. This made him a strong contender for selection. Given Litton’s unavailability and the team’s need for a top-order batter who can keep wickets, Anamul’s inclusion became a logical choice.

Litton Das’s absence could be a significant setback for Bangladesh, particularly as they strive to clinch their first Asia Cup title. The 28-year-old had emerged as Bangladesh’s highest run-scorer in ODIs since the beginning of 2022. His remarkable tally of 878 runs in 25 innings, at an average of 41.80, showcased his consistency and impact with the bat. His absence will undoubtedly create a void the team must navigate.

Despite this unforeseen setback, Bangladesh’s journey in the Asia Cup continues. The team arrived in Sri Lanka on August 27, and their campaign kicked off on August 31 against Sri Lanka in Pallekele. In group B, they will face Afghanistan on September 3 in Lahore. As the team adjusts its strategies and prepares to face formidable opponents, Anamul Haque adds a new dynamic to their lineup.
