MS Dhoni Groomed Fast Bowlers Under His Captaincy And Handovered It To Virat Kohli, Says Ishant Sharma

Veteran Indian fast bowler, Ishant Sharma has revealed that the former Indian captain MS Dhoni had done a great job grooming the fast bowlers during his tenure. While talking to Jio Cinema, Dhoni said that, the captain after Dhoni, Virat Kohli got the complete package of bowlers from where he took team India onto the next level.

Former Indian wicket-keeper MS Dhoni enjoyed his time as the skipper from 2007 to 2016, giving some memorable wins. Under his captaincy, bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumra made their debut for India in international cricket.

Before taking the role of the permanent captain of the Indian cricket team across all formats in 2017, Virat Kohli had a wealth of high-quality fast bowlers at his arsenal. This made India very intact to fight on foreign pitches.

While talking to the Jio Cinema, Ishant Sharma said,“When Virat was captain, bowling was complete. When we were playing under Mahi bhai, we were in a transition phase. At that time, Shami and Umesh were new, and only I was there. Everyone else would rotate. Bhuvi was also new. There is no match for Mahi bhai as a communicator.”

“But, what he did was groom the bowlers and leave them with Virat. Shami and Umesh, over time, became different bowlers, and then, Jasprit came in. So, he got a complete package,” he added.
