In the final of the 16th edition of Indian Premier League 2023, Chennai Super Kings beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets. The final was played on the reserve day and CSK chased down the revised target of 171 runs in 15 overs. It was Ravindra Jadeja who hit the winning runs for CSK in the last overs when the team needed 10 runs off two balls. It was crunch time for both teams when 4 required in the last ball and all the players seemed to be nervous. However, the former Pakistan opening batter Salman Butt has given the latest statement on the IPL final and said that MS Dhoni was the only guy who looked calm and had held his emotions.
The former Pak player highlighted the composure displayed by the Chennai Super Kings captain who maintained his cool when the team needed four runs from the last delivery in the IPL 2023 final against the Gujarat Titans on Monday, May 29th.
Speaking on the same, Butt also recalled the incident when Dhoni remained composed after running out Mustafizur Rahman in the 2016 T20 World Cup where India secured a thrilling one-run victory.
While speaking on his Youtube Channel, Butt said, “When we talk about MS Dhoni, there was a World Cup match between India and Bangladesh a few years ago that went down all the way to the last ball. Hardik Pandya was bowling, and when he was running in, Dhoni had removed one glove and tucked it in his trousers. The plan was to bowl it outside the off stump, as the batter didn’t have a long reach. He collected the ball and sprinted towards the stumps.”
He further added, “He beat the batter with his sprint and ran him out. After that when the whole team was jumping in the air, he stood there calmly. We saw something similar in the IPL final as well. Everyone was nervous ahead of the last ball. There was only one guy who was sitting silently. It is not like he doesn’t have any feelings but he is capable of controlling his emotions.”

Salman Butt also said that MS Dhoni’s stumping Shubman Gill was the game-changer for CSK. The former Pakistan batter also noted that CSK fielding looked a bit sloppy in the final and they gave two lives to Gill by dropping his catches. However, On Ravindra’s Jadeja bowling, Dhoni sent Gill to the pavilion on 39 runs with his electrifying stumping.
