ICC PENALISED INDIA FOR SLOW OVER-RATE IN FIRST ODI AGAINST BANGLADESH

Team India lost the low-scoring thriller against Bangladesh by just one wicket, and now the men in blue have been fined 80% of the match fees due to the slow over rate. India has taken more than the allocated time in the first ODI match against Bangladesh in Mirpur Dhaka.

The match referee Ranjan Madugalle has imposed the sanction on the Indian team. “Match referee Ranjan Madugalle imposed the sanction after India was ruled four overs short of the target,” ICC said.

This fine is imposed according to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. According to this, bowling side players are fined 20% of match fees for every over they fail to bowl in allowance time. Indian team has four overs short of allowance; that’s why they have been fined 80% of the match fees.

On-field umpires Michael Gough and Tanvir Ahmed, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel leveled the charge on the Indian team. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma confessed to the offense and accepted the imposed fine. There was no need for any formal hearing between the ICC Elite Panel and Indian Team Management.
