‘I Won’t Be Making Into The Next World Cup’, Starc Reveals His Retirement And Future Plan With Australia

Australian left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc clarified on Monday that he does not intend to participate in the next World Cup. However, he said that he has no plan to retire from ODI cricket. Starc will be 37 when the next World Cup will be played in South Africa. He was a part of Australia’s victorious campaigns in the 2015 ODI World Cup and the 2021 T20 World Cup.

The performance of Starc in this World Cup has been very decent. He has only gained 10 wickets with an average of 43.90. “I’ll look to keep playing after this, but I don’t doubt that I won’t be making the next World Cup. I’ve no vision for that. Four years is a long (time),” Starc told reporters at the team hotel.

Australia has a limited number of ODI matches scheduled for next year, with a series against the West Indies set for February. After that, the next ODI series is not until September when they will tour England.

Starc also said that the longest format of the game, which is Test Cricket, is his priority.

The bowler said, “I’ve always maintained that Test cricket is the top of the tree for me and I’ll drop off the rest before I let go of Test cricket. For me (the World Cup semifinal) is just another one-day game for Australia, it’s not the end of the road in one-day cricket as yet for me.”
