It’s a brand new start for one of the most successful IPL franchises, the Chennai Super Kings, as Ruturaj Gaikwad has now taken captaincy from Ms. Dhoni and is set to lead the yellow army in the upcoming season.
CSK won the previous edition of the IPL under the leadership of Ms. Dhoni, but it was evident that Dhoni would play the role of mentor in the IPL 2024.
Speaking on being the captain of CSK, Gaikwad said, “Feel privileged. But I want to try and be in my shoes, not fill anybody’s shoes. (On captaincy, I got to know last week, but Mahi Bhai hinted at it last year.) Everyone is experienced here; sadly, we are missing Conway and Pathirana.”
Gaikwad further added, “We’ve got Rachin and Mitchell coming in through this year, so they should fit in well. It looks like a good pitch with a hard surface that should hold up well for the second inning. Four overseas: Mitchell, Rachin, Fizz, and Theekshana. The domestic player Sameer Rizvi is making his debut as well.”
However, Gaikwad started his leadership tenure for CSK with a victory as the Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangaluru in the opening encounter of the tournament by six wickets.
Mustafizur Rahman was awarded Man of the Match for his exceptional performance, with the ball picking up four wickets and giving away just 29 runs in his four overs.
