The Momentary Loss: Ruturaj Gaikwad Misses Rare IPL Record!

CSK’s skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, missed an IPL record just by a whisker. The star batter scored 98 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in just 54 deliveries. If Ruturaj Gaikwad had scored those two runs, he would have been the first captain in the history of the IPL to score two consecutive hundreds.

Gaikwad got equal support from the other end from Shivam Dube, who scored 39 of just 20 deliveries.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, in the final over, tried to score a boundary for T. Natarajan but was caught.
In the previous match, Gaikwad had scored 108 of just 60 deliveries against the Lucknow Super Giants, but that came in a losing cause.

Only four batters in the history of the IPL have hit two successive hundreds in the IPL, with Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill becoming the two players to achieve the feat in the previous edition of the IPL.

Successful Hundreds in IPL

Shikhar Dhawan in 2020
Jos Buttler in 2022
Virat Kohli in 2023
Shubman Gill in 2023.

As many as eight sixes were hit in CSK’s innings, and four of them came from Dube’s bat. Dube remained not out 39* of just 20 balls.
